Phuket Vegetarian Festival :
A colourful event held over a nine day period in late September/early October in phuket.
Every year in October the Vegetarian Festival is being held in Phuket City for ten days.
The Festival is a Religious Festival of Chinese origin. Hence it is being held in Phuket City,
where many people of Chinese origin traditionally live.

During the Vegetarian Festival Phuket City is worth a visit (and in my opinion also outside the ten days of this Festival). The Vegetarian Festival is the place to get some real good vegetarian food, to see some amazing processions and to see the climbing of ladders, made of knives.

Thailand Vegetarian Festival Chinese Holiday

Every year in late September and early October, Thailand pays their respect to 9 gods over 9 days in a mish-mash of events that make one of the most gruesome festivals in the world, known as the Vegetarian Festival with the largest festival held in Phuket Island.

This tradition was brought to Thailand by the Chinese in the 19th century, and the festival is supposed to celebrate the community’s belief that abstinence from meat and various stimulants will help them obtain good health and peace of mind. During the 9 days, participants must adhere to 9 rules.
